I've not played with it but I saw the demo and that was my thought, too.
I think they went for "cool" rather than "useful". Oops.
Perhaps, like Twitter, it will transcend its own awfulness if enough people find a use for it. Although I'm not sure if that's a pleasant idea or an annoying one...
